This role is based in Netherlands and as such all normal working days must be carried out in Netherlands.
To be eligible for our NatWest Markets internship in Amsterdam, you’ll need to be in your penultimate year of university and be on course to achieving a degree classification of 3.0 or 7 in ideally a Finance, Economics, Business Administration or STEM related degree. You’ll need to hold a study agreement with a Dutch university or business school.
You’ll have a strong desire to develop your financial analysis and modelling skills
You’ll have a customer focused mind set and a genuine interest in business and economy related news
You’ll have a basic understanding of debt capital markets concepts as well as the Trading of financial products
Able to work to tight deadlines with a high degree of accuracy in your work
You’ll need to understand and be passionate about sustainable finance instruments, the Trading of financial products and market dynamics.
You’ll need to be fluent in English, speaking Dutch or any Nordic language is an advantage.
About the programme
Over the course of this 3-6 month internship, we’ll give you a taste of what it’s like to work here, along with valuable experience to help guide your career choices.
There are three teams that you could join as an intern; Climate & ESG Capital Markets team, Trading teams or Sales teams. Whichever team you join, you’ll have the chance to gain exposure to the NatWest Markets full suite of products, and interact with teams across the bank including Debt Capital Markets, Loan Markets, Corporate Advisory, Trading, Rates and FX, and Transaction Services.
The Climate & ESG Capital Markets team research and update clients on sustainable finance developments, maintain pitchbook and database materials, analyse and benchmark client’s ESG strategies.
Joining this teams will enable you to provide support through conducting company and industrial data research, credit and financial analysis, sector research, peer analyses, and business origination related tasks. In addition, working on a variety of sustainability data structuring and analysis projects for the purposes of management reporting and client materials will provide you with valuable career experience that you can take forward.
Working with senior leaders you’ll gain experience of:
- Company and industry data research
- The production of educational materials concerning sustainable finance
- Structuring and executing transactions
- Financial modelling for specific transactions
- Drafting client presentations
- Managing clients’ risks
- Undertaking financial reporting and analysis.
The Trading team price and risk manage FX & Interest Rate instruments, market make and execute trades in the broker market and analyse market trends. On this 3 month internship you’ll work across multiple Trading desks with a strong focus on Rates Trading. You’ll help with all day-to-day activities while going through an extensive learning phase in terms of risks, pricing, clients, market behaviour and be expected to take responsibility early on.
Joining this team you’ll also gain experience of:
- Risk management: viewing, identifying and understanding first and second order risk; generating sensible hedging strategies and generating revenue for the bank
- Pricing: engaging with Sales to price customer tickets and understand customer needs
- Trading in interbank/broker market: market make and provide liquidity in bonds/futures/swaps/options in interbank market; providing market commentary to internal audiences.
The Sales team cover Dutch and Nordic financial institutions at Natwest. You'll be joining team covering a wide range of clients (pension funds, insurance companies, banks and asset managers) and products, including fixed income, derivatives, FX and repurchasing.
Joining this team you’ll also gain experience of:
- Working in sales team to respond to day-to-day enquiries, but also preparing materials and presentations
- Pricing products for client enquiries and write market commentary
- Support Sales team in interaction with Legal and Onboarding teams
