Join us as a Climate Risk Framework & Ring-Fence Bank Oversight Lead

  • If you’re ready for a new challenge and want to make a far-reaching impact through your work, this could be the opportunity you’re looking for
  • The climate crisis poses significant financial risks and economic consequences, and it’s vital that we understand and explore the potential current and future impacts
  • This is where you can make an impact, by owning and developing a robust risk framework to accurately identify, measure, assess and oversee the emerging and long-term risks that climate change presents
  • Expect to grow your network and gain significant exposure both for you and your work, as you work alongside the brightest minds in our industry to ensure that our bank, the financial system and the macroeconomy are resilient to the risks from climate change and support the UK’s transition to a net-zero economy

What you'll do

Tackling climate change is central to our purpose-led strategy, and minimising the future risks that it presents requires rapid and collective action, now. As our Climate Risk Framework & Ring-Fence Bank Oversight Lead, you’ll need to adopt a strategic approach to consider how our actions today affect future financial risks. You’ll lead the on-going development and embedding of a robust risk framework to understand the scale of climate risk and our exposure to it, including the impact of physical and transition risks, and their causal effect on financial risk, as well as driving forward oversight capabilities across the Ring-Fence Bank entities.

You’ll then enable, and be responsible for:

  • Enhancing our risk management capability, identifying the processes, methodologies, tools, technologies and talent needed to explore and address our resilience and vulnerabilities to climate risk
  • Working with model developers, analysts, economists and climate experts alongside a broad range of internal stakeholders, to develop the necessary risk framework toolkit to manage climate risk
  • Documenting your recommended approach to mitigating financial risk, and putting a credible framework in place to control any exposures within agreed risk appetite
  • Working with Director of Risk teams and customer facing franchises in the Ring-Fence Bank entities to oversee that climate risk is embedded in our business decision making in line with agreed risk appetite
  • Challenging and engaging with Board and ExCo members, keeping them informed of the long and short-term financial risks presented by climate change to determine the impact on our overall risk profile and business strategy
  • Preparing accurate risk management information, proposals and regulatory disclosures, and supporting the relationship with external regulators and rating agencies

The skills you'll need

Your extensive knowledge and experience in climate risk management will be crucial to your success in this role. That’s why we’re keen to see you demonstrate an in-depth, holistic understanding of risk management, and experience of developing and implementing risk and control frameworks to support business strategy, along with risk oversight capabilities.

You’ll also bring:

  • Expert knowledge and significant experience in climate risk management and the practical application of climate risks and opportunities
  • A robust understanding of financial services’ operational landscape, external regulations and best practice guidance for climate risk frameworks
  • Experience of working closely with customer-facing businesses to implement regulations and policies, and ensure an effective control environment is in place
  • Extensive knowledge of UK, EU and global climate regulatory and reporting requirements, and a commitment to maintain an up-to-date knowledge of regulatory developments
  • A strategic mindset, insightful perspective and excellent influencing skills
