What you'll do

We provide Commercial Banking products, principally lending, deposits and structured finance products, to customers based in or active across Western Europe. This role will partner with the business and Risk function in a specialist capacity, identifying, assessing and managing it’s risks in particular in the client on boarding process within agreed risk appetite and using the organisation’s risk framework.


You’ll contribute to driving a generative culture of risk awareness in NatWest Germany and recommend solutions to financial crime risk issues. You’ll also strengthen the level of ownership within NatWest Germany, identifying and calling out areas of weakness as well as sharing best practices, while delivering a robust risk governance framework in line with the operational risk handbook and conduct and compliance handbook.

You’ll also:

  • Deliver specialist risk activity to build credible and realistic plans to move and sustain a control environment certification rating within risk appetite
  • Lead on First Line of Defence insight for NatWest Germany, taking into account German and European regulations
  • Lead a team ensuring all team activities are delivered in accordance with approved procedures, ensuring that service level targets are achieved, utilising resources optimally, reducing costs and increasing productivity
  • Escalate emerging risks in a timely manner and make sure actions are quickly defined and owned
  • Execute decisions relating to First Line of Defence financial crime matters in line with delegated authority
  • Undertake and investigate complex queries through to resolution

The skills you'll need

You’ll need experience of applying risk and control management in an operational and strategic context. You should also have a detailed understanding of organisational policies and mandatory procedures on financial crime, an understanding of financial crime regulations and legislation, and knowledge of operational tax principles and processes within big organisations.

You’ll also need:
        

  • To speak, write and read fluently in both German and English
  • A thorough understanding of product and processes as well as banking systems and payment systems relevant to NatWest Germany
  • A thorough knowledge of the German and European regulatory requirements in respect of First Line of Defence matters
  • Deep knowledge of risk assessment and scenario analysis methodologies
  • Experience of building and maintaining a wide network of stakeholders of varying degrees of seniority 
  • The ability to analyse, evaluate and report upon multiple sources of information, alternatives and associated consequences in order to design both tactical and strategic solutions
  • Experience of line manager duties such as leading, coaching and motivating people
  • Hold a relevant professional qualification, or working towards completing the qualification within a relevant timeframe after starting the role
