What you'll do
As a member of the Database Services team, you will play a key role in implementing our cloud- first strategy throughout the technical environment and maintaining it via Agile working practices. You will be primarily responsible for the Microsoft SQL Server environment, with secondary responsibilities for 3rd level and application support. Additionally, you will be required to undertake solution architecture duties as needed and work across multiple projects.
You’ll also be:
Implementation, support, maintenance, and performance tuning of standalone and clustered SQL Server instances.
Maintenance of the Windows Server and SQL Server platform baseline configuration including introduction of new features and management of the security and configuration baselines.
Creation of scripts to automate processes, installation, etc.
Creation of design and operational documentation to enable handover of operational responsibilities.
Execution of Incident, Problem and Change Management processes.
Working both independently and as part of a team to achieve project based outcomes.
The skills you'll need
We’re looking for a technically skilled and innovative professional with a vast experience as system engineer/SQL Server Database Administrator, within an enterprise environment. You’ll show a track record in integrating infrastructure applications and have worked within a regulated environment (e.g. pharmaceuticals, banking) that has structured Incident, Problem and Change Management. In addition, you’ll demonstrate a degree in computer science/engineering and strong knowledge of SQL Server database technologies, especially in High Availability (HA) environments, as well as backup and restore management.
You’ll also demonstrate:
Strong knowledge in optimization of complex T-SQL queries and indexes, using execution plans, Extended Events, and other appropriate tools.
Deep knowledge of Windows Server
Very strong scripting skills in PowerShell with a capability to develop complex scripts from scratch.
Good understanding of how to implement least privilege security within an AD environment.
Good understanding of the web application technology stacks.
Capable of independently acquiring new knowledge and skills and willingness to adapt to changes in infrastructure technologies and strategy.
Able to communicate in English, both written and verbal.
Availability to provide 3rd level support as well as out-of-hours on-call duties and work some weekends on-site throughout the year when required.
Experience in orchestration, cloud (public, hybrid, private), and containerization technologies a distinct advantage.
