Our goal in Data and Analytics

We’re promoting the intelligent use of data and making sure it’s used in the right way. Data is one of our biggest assets. How we harness this data to understand the world, our business and our customers is crucial to our success.

Good data engineering helps us to get to grips with the data we have, and to profile the key features we can use to power our data science models. And in Data Science, we can apply statistics, computer science and problem-solving skills together with strong research methods, to test, learn and optimise machine learning powered decisions.

What’s great about the programme?

Every area of our business is different – they each need their own skillsets, their own challenges, their own nuances. What better way to find out what working in a business area is like, than from the people who already work there?

Katie’s experience

See what Katie thinks about their experience in Data and Analytics.

Speaker: Katie Goddard

Tell us about Data and Analytics

Katie: Data analytics provides insights which can be used to make important business decisions and improve customer experience, for example we help to detect and prevent fraudulent transactions and improve customer service using new technologies such as our chatbot Cora.

How has being part of Data and Analytics team stretched you professionally?

Katie: I’ve learned a lot since joining the grad scheme there’s been plenty of opportunities for formal development for example I completed a nano degree in natural language processing earlier this year and there’s also been opportunities where it’s a bit more out of my comfort zone, such as developing innovative ideas and pitching in front of senior leaders.

What do you find most exciting about Data and Analytics?

Katie: I think for me the most exciting thing about data analytics is the variety of business areas you could be working in and the amount of learning opportunities available, there’s so much scope to develop new skills and then go off and find projects where those will be put to use.
