Text: Who are you?

Ben Osbourne, Apprentice Data Analyst: I’m Ben, I’m an apprentice Data Analyst.

Text: What made you choose this apprenticeship?

Ben: So I saw an opportunity with NatWest where I could further my career, so I went for it.

Text: Describe your apprenticeship in three words?

Ben: Fun, exciting and rewarding.

Text: Why NatWest Group for your apprenticeship?

Ben: Well, when I saw the advertisement, I thought it was a fantastic opportunity to take on new challenges, develop new skills in a field I wasn’t familiar with before. So that’s why I went for it.

Text: What’s the best thing about this apprenticeship?

Ben: I think for me, it’s definitely the challenge and being able to apply myself into a new team that I haven’t done before.

Text: Where are you now on your apprenticeship journey?

Ben: So I’ve just finished my apprenticeship journey, so after 18 months I’ve got my level eight diploma in data analytics so I’ll just wait and see my final mark.

Text: How are you rewarded?

Ben: So we’re rewarded with a great benefit scheme in terms of a pension and that, so it allows us to plan for the future which is amazing because it alleviates that pressure for future planning.

Text: How will your future career look with the qualification you’ll gain following your apprenticeship?

Ben: So by getting my diploma in data analytics it means that it opens up a multitude of fields within the bank and also possibly going into new teams which is a fantastic opportunity because it’s great to expand my knowledge and skills.

Text: Do you feel you can make an impact through your apprenticeship?

Ben: Absolutely, I think it can make an impact. I feel like from day one I’ve been allowed to express myself and take on new challenges, which I haven’t done before which has been great because it’s allowed me to expand my knowledge in so many different areas.

Who we’re looking for

Unless you’re looking to do a Degree Level Apprenticeship you don’t need any formal qualifications to apply for one of our apprenticeships, so who are we looking for?

Are you good with numbers? Do you like the idea of using data to solve some of the biggest problems we face today, such as inequality and climate change? Are you not just interested in the numbers but improving the lives of the people behind them? If the answer to any of those questions is “yes”, then a Data and Insights Apprenticeship is the perfect place for you.

Apprenticeships set you up for what to expect in your career, it’s so important to get real-life experience.”

The application process

Step 1: Apply

Select the apply button to go to our Workday platform. You’ll need to create an account if you don’t have one already.

We’ll ask you a few questions to make sure you’re the right fit for the role and ask you to upload a version of your CV that includes any qualifications you’re currently studying.

Step 2: Online assessment – Work scenarios

This assessment will give you real life work situations to help us understand how you use the core skills and behaviours that are important to us. It’ll take around 20-25 minutes to complete but you can take as long as you need.

Step 3: Ability test (Degree Level apprenticeships only)

For a Degree Level apprenticeship, you’ll also be asked to complete an ability test. This comes before the video interview. It lasts about 10 minutes and you’ll be using your problem solving and numeracy skills. There are practice tests available in the ‘help’ option once you’re in the assessment platform.

Step 4: Pre-recorded video assessment

This is your chance to tell us more about you. You’ll record timed answers to pre-recorded questions in a video interview. There’s a mix of motivational, competency, and scenario-based questions. It should take around 20 minutes to complete.

Step 5: The interview

When you’ve passed the last stage of the online assessments, we’ll aim to book you in for an interview. Every one of our apprenticeships is assessed against our Critical People Capabilities (CPCs).

Step 6: Pre-employment screening

If you’ve been successful at securing a place on one of our programmes you’ll need to complete pre-employment screening. This will be managed by one of our case handlers who will guide you through the process.
