Kickstart your career

Degree Level Apprenticeships give you the chance to get real-world experience in a job you’re passionate about and get a Degree Level qualification in the process.

Choosing to do your Degree Level Apprenticeship means you’re not stuck in a lecture hall or on a Zoom call all the time but working on real problems and using what you learn to solve them. There really is no better way to kickstart your career.

Hear from our apprentices

Taking that next step towards a career can be a bit daunting. That’s why we do everything we can to support you on your journey. From giving you the time you need to get adjusted in your new job, to giving you direct one to one support whenever you’re having difficulty.

We encourage you to put your best foot forward every step of the way. But never mind what we have to say. Find out what our apprentices think of us.

Text: So tell me a little bit about yourself?

Mariam Hamis, Digital Marketer Degree Apprentice: Sure, so my name is Mariam and I’m currently doing the Digital Marketing Degree Apprenticeship at NatWest.

Text: Why did you choose an apprenticeship over further education?

Mariam: I think it’s a good balance between working and gaining a qualification at the same time, and I can also apply my knowledge first-hand into the role.

Text: Why NatWest Group for your apprenticeship?

Mariam: I think it’s important to work for an organisation whose values reflect your own and mine work really well with NatWest.

Text: Do you feel you can make an impact through your apprenticeship?

Mariam: I do, I have a lot of responsibilities and I also had the opportunity to lead on some large projects as well which is really cool.

Text: At NatWest Group, teamwork is everything. What does teamwork mean to you?

Mariam: To me, it’s all about support and communication.

Text: What do you think about having a job waiting for you, once you complete your apprenticeship?

Mariam: It provides a really great sense of security and also helps me work towards cementing my career in marketing.

Text: And finally, describe your apprenticeship journey in three words?

Mariam: Oh, I think that’s my favourite question. I’d probably say insightful, inspiring and fun.

Who we’re looking for

Do you enjoy a challenge? Do you want to have an industry recognised qualification and the experience to back it up? Do you like new ideas and new ways of doing things? If you answered “yes” to any of these then a Degree Level Apprenticeship is for you!

There are so many different paths that an Apprenticeship can take you but one thing they all share is that they’re perfect for someone who wants to help make us a place where people, families and businesses can thrive.

Please note – a Degree Level Apprenticeship is equivalent to a Level 6 qualification in England, and may or may not include a degree (BA Hons/BSC) as this varies per programme.

Doing my apprenticeship and degree together means I’ll get my accounting qualifications faster than the traditional route.”

The application process

Step 1: Apply

Select the apply button to go to our Workday platform. You’ll need to create an account if you don’t have one already.

We’ll ask you a few questions to make sure you’re the right fit for the role and ask you to upload a version of your CV that includes any qualifications you’re currently studying.

Step 2: Online assessment – Work scenarios

This assessment will give you real life work situations to help us understand how you use the core skills and behaviours that are important to us. It’ll take around 20-25 minutes to complete but you can take as long as you need.

Step 3: Ability test (Degree Level apprenticeships only)

For a Degree Level apprenticeship, you’ll also be asked to complete an ability test. This comes before the video interview. It lasts about 10 minutes and you’ll be using your problem solving and numeracy skills. There are practice tests available in the ‘help’ option once you’re in the assessment platform.

Step 4: Pre-recorded video assessment

This is your chance to tell us more about you. You’ll record timed answers to pre-recorded questions in a video interview. There’s a mix of motivational, competency, and scenario-based questions. It should take around 20 minutes to complete.

Step 5: The interview

When you’ve passed the last stage of the online assessments, we’ll aim to book you in for an interview. Every one of our apprenticeships is assessed against our Critical People Capabilities (CPCs).

Step 6: Pre-employment screening

If you’ve been successful at securing a place on one of our programmes you’ll need to complete pre-employment screening. This will be managed by one of our case handlers who will guide you through the process.
