Our goal in Strategic Development

We’re at the heart of driving our strategic agenda – to help the bank set itself up for success now, and in the future. Each of our teams works together to shape our future and make sure we build a sustainable, innovative, and purposeful bank.

We’re made up of teams across Strategy, Sustainable Banking and Climate.

What’s great about the programme?

Every area of our business is different – they each need their own skillsets, their own challenges, their own nuances. What better way to find out what working in a business area is like, than from the people who already work there?

Speaker: Alex Stamford

Tell us about Strategic Development

Alex: We’re a diverse group made up of economics, sustainable banking, climate strategy, corporate development and ventures.

How has working here stretched you professionally?

Alex: Working for strategies has really stretched me both personally. I’ve grown as an individual and better understand banking. I’ve delivered projects alongside presentations as well to multiple stakeholders, both internally and externally. I’ve really been pushed out of my comfort zone.

What do you find most challenging about working here?

Alex: One of the challenges when joining is understanding the different business areas and who the key stakeholders are. At first it can be a bit daunting, but over time you get to know and you get to reach out and network with different stakeholders around the bank and that can be really valuable.

Is the programme for you?

Are you interested in how changes in business and society affect how we serve our customers? Do you like the sound of creating innovative plans to meet their needs as well as tackling climate change and making sure we are a bank doing the right thing? Then this Internship programme could be up your street.

This is your chance to develop and scale out our propositions, support us in becoming more sustainable and join us on our journey in tackling the climate crisis. Help us build a purposeful and innovative bank while gaining understanding of how we set and drive our strategy.

The aim of this eight-week Internship is to give you a taste of what it’s like to work here, along with valuable skills and experiences that you’ll bring into your future career.

Who can support you?

For the full eight weeks, we’ll pair you with a ‘buddy’ and a line manager, who’ll support you in gaining valuable experience to help guide your career choices.

During the programme, you’ll also work with other interns on a business project. This will help you develop key skills covering team working, planning, creative thinking, presenting, business plan writing and problem solving – gaining crucial experience in presenting to stakeholders. You’ll also get time to support good causes in the communities we serve through a community giveback day.
