Our goal in Wealth Businesses

Our strategy is to deliver not just competitive day to day banking, but to help clients reduce their household debt and build longer term investments. Our Wealth Businesses are managed under Coutts.

Coutts has over 330 years of history and has defined the Private Banking sector by showing it is more than just a bank, it’s a business that prides itself on expertise and experience. At Coutts, we build lasting relationships with clients to provide a world-class service for them throughout their lifetime, from early years to post-retirement.

What’s great about the programme?

Every area of our business is different – they each need their own skillsets, their own challenges, their own nuances. What better way to find out what working in a business area is like, than from the people who already work there?

Charlie’s experience

Charlie Nightingale, Wealth Businesses Graduate: Tell us about Wealth Businesses

The NatWest Wealth Businesses consists of Coutts and Affluent. Coutts is an established name within the private banking space, serving high net worth and ultra high net worth individuals, whereas Affluent is a relatively new business area serving some of NatWest’s wealthiest clients by bringing together multiple brands across the NatWest Group, and whilst Early Careers programmes used to focus on Coutts, they now incorporate Affluent as part of the wider Wealth Businesses umbrella.

Charlie Nightingale: What do you find most exciting about being in Wealth Businesses?

I think the thing I find the most exciting about working in the world strategy team is the level of senior exposure we get. You know the work that we do is often a particular interest to senior executives within NatWest Group. Working in the world strategy team has probably stretched me in two main ways. The first is working to quite tight deadlines, so by nature of the work that we do it needs doing yesterday, so prioritisation has been really key in succeeding in the role. And then, the second is presenting to senior members of the organisation.

Is the programme for you?

Are you the type of person who has a passion for delivering an excellent service while building professional relationships? Our Wealth Internship internships could be for you.

There are two internships to choose from: Asset Management and Coutts Relationship Management. Whichever programme you choose, you’ll work across multiple business areas and understand our end-to-end processes, building relationships with your colleagues and clients so we can meet their needs.

The aim of this eight-week Internship is to give you a taste of what it’s like to work here, along with valuable skills and experiences that you’ll bring into your future career.

Two paths within Wealth Businesses

Asset Management

The Asset Management programme will support you in building a deep understanding of financial markets and wealth management, by growing a comprehensive understanding of investments and learning how to interpret data and insights in investment strategy, fund and equity analysis, and risk.

You’ll develop first class client service skills and gain a unique insight into the investment advice and services offered to private clients.

Coutts Relationship Management

The Coutts Relationship Management programme will enable you to quickly develop your relationship management expertise and commercial awareness.

You’ll work alongside Relationship Managers and Specialist Advisors to gain unique, first-hand experience of providing relationship support for the diverse needs of our high-net-worth clients.

Who can support you?

For the full eight weeks, we’ll pair you with a ‘buddy’ and a line manager, who’ll support you in gaining valuable experience to help guide your career choices.

During the programme, you’ll also work with other interns on a business project. This will help you develop key skills covering team working, planning, creative thinking, presenting, business plan writing and problem solving – gaining crucial experience in presenting to stakeholders. You’ll also get time to support good causes in the communities we serve through a community giveback day.
